Lansing Public Library Soars at 70!

My library is celebrating its 70th anniversary.

We came up with the idea to have 70 events ("flights") throughout the year, and promote them as a group. All 70 of the event flyers will be posted as a group near the lower level entrance.

We do have more than 70 individual events during the year, so we're highlighting, for example, a specific storytime, book discussion, in addition to special programming January-December!

The anniversary also ties in with the Village of Lansing's celebration of the anniversary of the Historic Ford Hangar at the Lansing Airport. Remember the Cows on Parade in Chicago? Well, this summer, Lansing will have model tri-motor planes outside the businesses!
Smaller tabletop models will also be displayed in the library.

The 2006 summer reading program will tie-in with the flight theme, and we've extended it year-long with Lansing Public Library Soars at 70!

Attached is a pdf of the flyer for flight #1 ... this weekend's Friends of the Library Book Sale. It's on the 7th, and they're having a 70 cent sale!

Each of the flyers in our series of 70 flights this year will have the same header & footer.

  • People must have loved the concept! They made over $1000 in just 2 hours!

Local paper ran a story on the anniversary yesterday. http://www.nwitimes.com/articles/2006/01/06/news/illiana/d9fcebe6bcfe0c0f862570ed00827080.txt
